Cambridge, Scandia and Travis Elementary Schools named 2016 California Gold Ribbon schools

Cambridge, Scandia and Travis Elementary Schools will receive CALIFORNIA GOLD RIBBON AWARDS.

The California Gold Ribbon Recognition Program announced the California Gold Ribbon Schools for 2016. Cambridge, Scandia and Travis elementary schools received notice this week that they will each receive a California State Gold Ribbon Award!

Principals from Cambridge Elementary, Scandia Elementary and Travis Elementary each received a congratulatory letter from State Superintendent Tom Torlakson. The respective principals: Susan Nader, Mark Pennington and Deanna Yasaki learned on Wednesday that each of their schools is being recognized as one of the 772 California Gold Ribbon Schools for 2016. Torlakson goes on to compliment by stating that the award is a direct result of the dedication, creativity, and talent of their school’s educational community.

The Gold Ribbon awards recognize California schools that have made gains in implementing the academic content and performance standards adopted by the State Board of Education. These include, the California Standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics.

The California Gold Ribbon Schools Award was created to honor schools in place of the California Distinguished Schools Program, which is on hiatus while California creates new assessment and accountability systems.

“I am pleased and proud of our exceptional schools, their principals and staff,” remarked Superintendent Kate Wren Gavlak. “These schools demonstrate the tremendous commitment of educators districtwide to provide high quality instruction along with innovative systems of support that help students experience success. Our schools are embraced by the Fairfield, Travis and Vacaville communities and we greatly appreciate their ongoing support of our students.”

The Awards Ceremony will take place on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at the Sheraton Grand Sacramento Hotel in Sacramento.
